Alaska Children's Services provides psychiatric residential treatment for
children and adolescents with moderate to severe emotional and behavioral
disorders.
Fifty-eight youth reside in seven cottages on two campuses. The Jesse Lee
Campus, located on twenty-five acres, eight miles south of downtown Anchorage,
is the site of four cottages, a school, gymnasium, and outdoor recreation areas.
The Maplewood Campus, located on five-acres in central Anchorage, is the site of
three additional cottages.
Typically, students admitted to Alaska Children's Services' residential
program have been unable to resolve their individual treatment issues in an
outpatient setting. Additionally, they have been unsuccessful in foster care or
less restrictive treatment settings.
Alaska Children’s Services recognizes the importance
of spiritual development in students’ lives. An active and voluntary spiritual
life program is available for all students in our residential program. Using story telling, crafts,
activities and cultural lore, ACS youth experience emotional and spiritual
growth in a nonsectarian, positive and supportive way. The Spiritual Life staff
and all associated activities are funded by private gifts and grants.
